The development of a baby during the first trimester of pregnancy

It is amazing that a baby forms from a single cell, and this creation is far beyond our understanding. There are two types of ages called the menstrual age and the conceptional age. Menstrual age is the time since the first day of the menstrual period which is used by the pregnant woman to calculate the age of the baby. But the conceptional age is commonly used by the embryologists which is the interval since fertilization. The development of the fetal organs is called as organogenesis. A new organ develops each day in the first trimester. Organogenesis completes in the first trimester, but the organs grow and mature in second and third trimesters.

For the first 3 weeks following conception the term fertilized ovum or zygote is used. From 4 to 8 weeks after conception it is known as the embryo, and following this is the fetus until birth when it becomes a baby. The first trimester is between 0 and 12 weeks. Both the mother and the growing fetus undergo various changes.

0-4 weeks after conception: There is a rapid growth noticed during this stage. When a ovum is fertilized, it reaches the uterus in 3-4 days. The cell division starts here, where the fertilized ovum divides into 2, then into 4, then into 8, 16 and so on until it forms a cluster of cells called as the morula. In 10 days, the morula becomes the blastocyst which has a fluid filled cavity called as blastocele. This blastocyst lies free in the uterus for 2 or 3 more days. Now, trophoblast the single layer of cell which lies outside the blastocyst produces a sticky substance that helps the blastocyst to adhere to the endometrium. This is called as implantation which happens around 28th of the last menstrual period. Embryonic plate and primitive central nervous system is also formed. Heart develops and begins to beat. Limb buds are also formed.

4-8 weeks: Cell division is very rapid at this stage. Head and the facial features develop. All the major organs are laid down in its primitive form. External genetalia is present but the sex is not distinguished. The baby shows some early movements that can be visible on ultrasound from 6 weeks.

8-12 weeks: Facial features become more prominent. Eyelids are fused, kidneys start to function, and the fetus passed urine from 10 weeks. The heart is chambered and fetal circulation functions properly. Sucking and swallowing begins. You might even see your baby sucking his thumb in an ultrasound. Sex is apparent now. He starts to move freely, but it is not felt by the mother. Some primitive reflexes are present.

First trimester is very important in organogenesis because most organs develop during this stage. Hence, care should be taken to avoid abnormalities in the developing baby by avoiding certain medicines and smoking.

Pregnancy Guide – 3 Essential Secrets To Conceive Baby Boy

Posted on : 03-11-2010 | By : admin | In : Pregnancy

If you are looking for a way to conceive a baby boy naturally, then this is probably the most important article you’ve ever read.

Why is this so?

Because, by the end of this article, you will understand what you will need to do to increase your chance of having a son and although I cannot guarantee you that this is a 100% sure work method, it has been proven again and again to many successful conception.

There are basically 3 ways to increase your chance of having a boy:

1) Charting and planning your ovulation date: This is extremely important. This is because the day that you “do it” matters. There are basically 2 kinds of sperm, namely the one containing the Y chromosome and the one containing the X chromosome.

The sperm containing the Y chromosome is responsible for producing a boy. The only thing is, they do not last last more than 24 hours in a female body while the sperm containing the X chromosome can last up to 72 hours.

If you want to have a boy, you must do it on the day when you ovulate and certainly not before, for the Y sperm can only last less than 24 hours in the body and you must have an egg for them to fertilize.

2) Regulating your PH levels: The reason why the Y sperm does not last more than 24 hours is because they are thinner and are not as strong as the X sperm. The acidic discharge of the female body accelerates breaking down the sperms, and this is especially true for the thinner Y sperm.

One of the ways to ensure that the Y sperm does not get broken down easily, is to regulate your PH level, making them more alkaline. When the discharge is more alkaline, it creates a friendlier environment to the Y sperm, thus, giving them a chance to last longer.

As such, the longer they last, the more Y sperm will be swimming towards the egg. Because they last longer, the further they swim. . . and the further they swim, the higher chance of you conceiving a baby boy.

3) Your baby making position: The only advantage that the Y sperm has over the X, is that they are generally faster swimmers. This is because, as mentioned, they are thinner, thus lighter.

By using positions that creates “deeper penetration”, it also helps to lessen the distance between the sperms and the egg. Note again that the Y sperm are faster swimmers, so, by helping them with that extra “head start”, it also puts you in a better position of having a son.

In addition to that, because the distance is generally lessen, the exposure to the acidic fluids is also reduced. As such, the more Y sperm will survive. . . and as point no. 2 has mentioned, as more Y sperms survive, it also increase your chance to conceive a baby boy naturally.
